Ordered by the LNER and designed by Gresley in 1924 at a cost of £14,395.00, the U1 was the most powerful steam locomotive in the UK. The 2-8-0+0-8-2 Garratt articulated locomotive features two 2-8-0 locomotives operating back to back. It was used to assist heavy coal trains up the steep Worsborough bank in Yorkshire, and was later set to work on the Lickey Incline. The final withdrawal came in 1955.
This spectacular kit features a one-piece boiler/ firebox/smokebox, etched cab, superstructure, chassis frames and four sets of valve gear.
We recommend purchasing our AM9 motor/gearbox and WS K40 wheelset with this kit.
