BR Standard Class 5 4-6-0
Introduced in April 1951, the Standard BR Class 5 followed in design principle the highly successful LMS Black Five. A total of 172 engines were built by Derby and later Doncaster works. A highly versatile, mixed-traffic engine, they were allocated to all parts of the country. Liveries were mainly the handsome BR mixed-traffic black with red, cream and grey lining but some did emerge from Swindon works lined in BR Passenger Green including 73029, 73031, 73035 and 73054. Five preserved examples exist today although the last of the class was officially withdrawn from service in 1968.
We recommend purchasing our GB30R-3M motor/gearbox and WS K325 wheelset with this kit.
